Running Google Ads, LinkedIn and Email Campaigns but Still Can't Tell What's Generating Leads?
By Varun Kancherla · Published 23 October 2026
Your marketing tools may be working individually. The problem is that they’re not telling you the full story together.
Your business is investing in Google Ads, LinkedIn campaigns, Meta advertising, email marketing and perhaps an external lead-generation agency.
Each platform reports activity. Google shows clicks. LinkedIn shows engagement. Your email platform reports opens and clicks. Your website analytics reports visitors.
But when management asks a simple question — “Which of these activities is actually generating qualified leads and customers?” — the answer becomes surprisingly difficult.
This is not necessarily a traffic problem or a campaign performance problem.
It may be a marketing measurement problem.
The Problem: Activity Is Visible. Business Outcomes Aren't.
Consider a business running five marketing activities:
- Google Ads to attract prospects searching for its services.
- LinkedIn campaigns to reach decision-makers.
- Meta campaigns for awareness and remarketing.
- MailerLite campaigns to nurture existing contacts.
- An external LinkedIn outreach vendor to generate meetings.
All five generate reports, but the business still struggles to answer:
- Which channels generate actual enquiries?
- Which campaigns produce qualified opportunities?
- Are external lead-generation vendors delivering measurable business outcomes?
- What happens after a prospect submits a form?
- Which investments should receive more budget?
The problem is often fragmented tracking across websites, advertising platforms and CRM systems.
What a Connected Marketing Measurement System Looks Like
A useful measurement system connects four layers.
1. Website and event tracking
Google Tag Manager helps manage supported website tracking tags. Google Analytics 4 measures website interactions and agreed business events such as lead-form submissions or appointment requests.
2. Advertising platform measurement
Google Ads, Meta Pixel and LinkedIn Insight Tag can record supported conversion events, helping teams evaluate campaign performance within each platform.
3. Campaign and vendor attribution
Consistent UTM parameters identify traffic from campaigns, emails and external vendors. Where supported, these identifiers can be captured alongside enquiries and passed into a CRM.
4. Lead and revenue measurement
HubSpot or Zoho CRM can help connect enquiries to qualification, opportunities and eventual revenue, provided the required data is captured and maintained.
Together, these layers help a business move from counting activity toward understanding commercial outcomes.
Example: Measuring an External LinkedIn Lead-Generation Vendor
Suppose a business pays an agency to run LinkedIn outreach.
The vendor reports 500 contacts approached, 60 responses and 15 meetings.
Those numbers may be useful, but they don’t establish commercial success.
A stronger measurement approach asks:
- How many meetings were accepted by the sales team?
- How many resulted in qualified opportunities?
- What pipeline value was created?
- How many customers were won?
- What did the business spend to acquire those customers?
Website tracking alone cannot answer all these questions. The measurement design must combine available vendor records, campaign identifiers and CRM outcomes.
Five Signs Your Marketing Tracking Needs Attention
- Multiple marketing platforms show conversions, but their numbers don’t agree.
- Form submissions arrive without reliable campaign-source information.
- Your team reports clicks and impressions but struggles to report qualified leads.
- External vendors provide activity reports without downstream outcomes.
- Management cannot confidently decide which campaigns deserve more investment.
How I Approach Marketing Measurement Projects
I start with the business decisions the measurement system needs to support.
We identify the important conversion actions, audit the existing website and tracking tools, establish naming and attribution conventions, configure supported integrations, and test the resulting data.
Where CRM integration is required, we also define how lead-source information should flow into HubSpot or Zoho.
The deliverable is not simply a collection of installed tags. It is a documented measurement foundation with clear limitations, test evidence and reporting responsibilities.
